I have been a Chief Executive and Senior Manager in the voluntary and charitable sector with 30 years experience leading in Scotland and Overseas. I have experience of leading complex organisations and delivering consistent social and economic development programmes across 25 countries. I have served on the Boards of organisations as diverse as the BBC International Broadcast Trust to local Women's Aid groups, faith based and community organisations.
I am trained in strategic planning and management, conflict resolution, programme and project management.
I led the EFQM (European Framework for Quality Management) project across the voluntary sector infrastructure in Scotland for SCVO, implemented organisational change and renewal for War on Want and the Scottish Mediation Network. Most recently I was the CEO for Citizens Advice Scotland and delivered signficant organisational change growing the organisations services and capacities and income from £5.2 million per annum to £14 million in 3 years.
I led a succesful change programme which saw the implementation of Government-led consumer landscape changes aimed at delivering better intelligence, consumer education and awareness, advice and advocacy across the regulated industries (Energy, Water and Post) and on consumer affairs generally.
I led the succesful implementation of the Government funded Pensionwise service in Scotland and was responsible for the advocacy project which led to the restructuring of the Payday Lending Industry.
For many years I worked with international non-governmental organisations involved in the implementation of both emergency and humanitarian aid programmes across 25 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Programmes included:-
I was a member of the Scottish Government's Advisory Group on Tackling Sectarianism and in my own community I am an active contributor to the work of the Conforti Institute.
